The Irish Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, has today announced funding of over €800m for “Shared Island” ROI/NI cross border investments.

This includes funding for the Narrow Water Bridge project which will provide a direct crossing between Warrenpoint (NI) and Omeath (ROI) with the aim of enhancing tourism and accessibility between NI and ROI.

The majority of the funding (€600m) has been allocated to upgrading the A5 North-West transport corridor with work possibly beginning later this year.

Funds have also been allocated to providing a new hourly rail service between Dublin and Belfast and redeveloping the Casement Park stadium in Belfast in advance of the UK and ROI jointly hosting the UEFA Euro2028 tournament.
